Grateful For The Stillness

“My soul, wait thou only upon God; for my expectation is from him.” Psalm 62:5

Quiet. Solace. We are a people that do not like to sit still. If we do not have an activity going or some music playing we panic.

Psalm 46:10 reminds us: “Be still, and know that I am God: I will be exalted among the heathen, I will be exalted in the earth.”

In the stillness we can learn so much. We learn a peace that passes all understanding. Learning a love from our God will comfort us through the difficult times. We learn we have a hope that is sure because our anchor is in Jesus. And so we learn a patience in trials that even the world will see and not understand.

Be still. Leave to your God your life and let Him walk you through the valleys as well as the mountaintops. Grateful to God that when I’m at my best, He’s there and when I’m at my worst, He’s there.

Stillness brings a blessed rest in Him.

Be still, my soul: the Lord is on thy side.
Bear patiently the cross of grief or pain.
Leave to thy God to order and provide;
In every change, He faithful will remain.
Be still, my soul: thy best, thy heav’nly Friend
Through thorny ways leads to a joyful end.

Be still, my soul: thy God doth undertake
To guide the future, as He has the past.
Thy hope, thy confidence let nothing shake;
All now mysterious shall be bright at last.
Be still, my soul: the waves and winds still know
His voice Who ruled them while He dwelt below.

Be still, my soul: begin the song of praise
On earth, believing, to Thy Lord on high;
Acknowledge Him in all thy words and ways,
So shall He view thee with a well-pleased eye.
Be still, my soul: the Sun of life divine
Through passing clouds shall but more brightly shine.

“Teach me, and I will hold my tongue: and cause me to understand wherein I have erred.” Job 6:24
