Who doesn’t like a good mystery? I’m a problem solver by nature so reading a mystery or watching a mystery is always entertaining for me. I especially enjoy a good British crime drama on TV. All ages can have the satisfaction of finding out “who done it” and I have a few series that should help your children learn to love solving mysteries, too. I also wrote about a Canadian author
here who wrote mysteries that surround famous landmarks.
Basil of Baker Street
This is a series I read over 30 years ago before Disney took it over and changed the name. I’m a vintage girl so check it them out
here on ThriftBooks and get the original series. They will not disappoint. In this series she has a nice duo who shares the same skills of Sherlock Holmes as they solve mysteries together. These are great books for ages 9-12. Eve Titus, the author, also writes about a wonderful working mouse, Anatole.
Trixie Belden
Trixie Belden is a series of 33 books about a young teen girl who forms meaningful friendships and solves mysteries between going to school and enjoying her life in New York. I have always enjoyed this series as it is refreshing and fun. Check them out
here. This series is also good for ages 9-12.
Nancy Drew
Nancy Drew started out in the 1930’s and was written by several people under the pseudonym of Carolyn Keene. She is a 16 year old high school student who lost her mom at a young age and now goes around solving mysteries with her friends. I love the earlier ones the best. Check out the originals
here. This series is also great for children ages 9-14.
Of course there are many other mystery series like The Hardy Boys, Tim Swift and more. Which series is your favorite?
