“And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by him.” Colossians 3:17
Everyone has hobbies, right? What do you do for relaxation? Do you have several projects going on at once?
My hobbies are reading and sewing. Mellie and I love to spend time together and she likes to play the game of “Sorry.”
I have to admit this isn’t one of my favorite games but we did have fun. Mellie wins most of the games we play. I do try to win but she is really good at this game.
Hobbies, games, books, all are great for a child’s development and definitely is time well spent with them.
Mellie also loves to help in the kitchen and she did a great job helping me make broccoli salad recently. She also has moved on to cooking a whole meal. She recently made us a beef stroganoff with mashed potatoes (skins left on). It was so good! Mellie makes great cupcakes, too. What cooking do your kids like to do?
Helping makes them feel mature and included which is why I’m so glad Emilie includes her often in jobs. They spend time washing Emilie’s car and then jumped in the pool. What fun! My children have always helped us clean the house.
Their dad is a super guy at cleaning and has taught them well how to deep clean. Their mom hates clutter and has taught them to put things away. Now that they are older one of the greatest joys I have is also one of the simplest. We help others. They will help at church cleaning it. My children will offer to help others who are sick, elderly or struggling with health issues. What a great hobby to have.
Letting them do things on their own or with minimal help foster their independence and keep them close to you at the same time.
Give them the joy of serving others!
“Only fear the LORD, and serve him in truth with all your heart: for consider how great things he hath done for you.” I Samuel 12:24
