“For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us which are saved it is the power of God.” I Corinthians 1:18
This verse has a powerful meaning in it when you stop to think about the cross Christ died upon. So much of our Christianity in the world today wants to focus on “the love of God.” We fail to realize the power of God is coming from our salvation.
As an attribute, love is something our God has plenty of. He loves us in spite of ourselves. However, just saying we know God loves us does not give us eternal life. We need the power of the cross. The understanding that comes when we are saved is that the cross is where our Savior died for our sins. Jesus did not stay on that cross, though, He arose.
Point them to the cross

For there the Savior shed His blood
New life to give.

For it was there the Savior died
That we might live.
If we truly, then, believe in the message of salvation we will know that the only way to have the power of God is through the cross. “That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.” (Romans 10:9-10)
Salvation brings peace to those who believe. It brings the power of God in knowing that nothing can harm our souls ever again. And, it gives us a reason to go on living today as we share this power with the lost. It is imperative that we point others to the cross as well. My daughters recently sang this song in our church.
