“Oh they say when you marry in June, you’re a bride all your life…” So says the song from the musical, Seven Brides For Seven Brothers. (Want some fun facts about this movie? Check it out

My husband and I have been married 30+ years. It hardly seems possible that we are that old or that so many years have passed. In my mind, it seems so much shorter and I’m so much younger. Still, life has marched on and after 30 years I’m reflecting on it all.
Blessed to have a husband
I am blessed because I have a husband who is a friend and a great provider as well as a godly father. I Timothy 5:8 comes to mind when I think of Pierre.
“But if any provide not for his own, and specially for those of his own house, he hath denied the faith, and is worse than an infidel.”
He has never quit a job without having another so we’ve always been provided for us physically. He has never moved us to a town without researching churches so we are spiritually provided for. Read
this article about how blessed I am in the moves we have made.
“Live joyfully with the wife whom thou lovest all the days of the life of thy vanity, which he hath given thee under the sun.” (Ecclesiastes 9:9) I can say that the years haven’t always been easy but between the two of us. But, there’s usually a joke to be had, a smile to be given and some joy to pass around. Sometimes the children see us as all business as we go about our day. But we are best friends and have a relationship that gives a lot to each other in small ways.
Pierre works from home and has since pre-Covid so we see a lot of each other. This has been a blessing and has strengthened our relationship greatly. The one tip I can give young parents is put the children to bed early at night (trust me they need the sleep anyway) and enjoy each other. You’ll never regret it.
Blessed to have joyful children
Speaking of those little darlings – we have six and one in heaven. Our children are spread out in ages (28 – 9) and spread out on continents (one married in Japan and one married in Wyoming with the rest at home still) but I’m so blessed to be able to talk to them all still. I’m blessed to have children who are always willing to do the housework (including cooking for a mom who isn’t very imaginative in the kitchen) and run errands for me when I’m not feeling up to it.
We all work together to make our house a place of peace, safety, laughter and joy. We homeschool so we truly are around each other a lot. I haven’t missed much of their firsts over the years and for this I am grateful.
“Lo, children are an heritage of the LORD: and the fruit of the womb is his reward.” (Psalm 127:3)
Blessed to have a godly church
Is this part of a blessed home? Yes, having a godly church to bring your family to helps to keep them grounded. The Bible tells us not to leave off going to church so everywhere we’ve gone we have found a church and attended. We’ve also become involved serving and encouraged our children to do the same so whether it is through the music ministry, teaching, cleaning, inviting people to church or just greeting people, our children have always followed our example and been involved.
Pierre and I were both raised in pastor’s homes so we have always served but I think my favorite time was when I was a teen and we lived on church property. I was always doing something at church. I loved it. Teach your children I Peter 4:10 and you’ll be blessed.
“As every man hath received the gift, even so minister the same one to another, as good stewards of the manifold grace of God.”
It isn’t a perfect home (I live in it 🤭) but it is a blessed home where we gather around His Word and we eat, work, talk and laugh together. We cry together and grow spiritually together and someday we will all be singing in Glory together. It will then be worth it all. Is your home as blessed as mine?
