“The Lord is my helper, and I will not fear what man shall do unto me.” Hebrews 13:6
Our world is filled with anxious people. Most people nowadays turn to medicine to help them with their anxiety but we can turn to God to help us daily with our feelings of anxiety. Jesus is there waiting and ready to help us. The first help for us is coming to the cross and being sure that Jesus is our Savior. He is there for us.
When you are feeling anxious, picture yourself coming to the throne of God and leave that burden with Him. Turn and walk away from that burden with the peace of knowing He will carry it for you. I Peter 5:7 says it best, “Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.” What happens when we leave our cares with Him? He brings us peace. “My peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth,” (John 14:27)
All your anxiety, all your care.
Bring to the mercy seat, leave it there,
Never a burden He cannot bear,
Never a friend like Jesus!
Mr. Edward Joy knew some things about anxiety, I believe. He lived through a world war and a great depression all while serving His God. As a Christian this did not mean he was immune from worry but rather that he knew where he could turn to and find help. Mr. Joy learned that daily depending on his God would have his burdens lifted.
Psalm 32:8 speaks of depending fully on God. “I will instruct thee and teach thee in the way which thou shalt go: I will guide thee with mine eye.” We have the blessing of seeking out God when anxiety hits and the cares of this world seem overwhelming. We do not have to be depressed, discouraged or unhappy. Our joy can spill over and show others around us that “weeping may endure for a night, but joy cometh in the morning.” (Psalm 30:5) With joy comes praise and anxiety cannot stick around when we are praising God.
Write your anxieties down, fold the paper up and pray them back to God. Leave them at His feet.
