Tell me the story of Jesus,
Write on my heart every word;
Tell me the story most precious,
Sweetest that ever was heard.
Tell how the angels in chorus,
Sang as they welcomed His birth,
“Glory to God in the highest!
Peace and good tidings to earth.”
Why do we go to church on Sundays? Is it to fulfill a duty or a promise to a person here on earth?
Church is about fellowshipping with the saints but it is about hearing from God’s Word. The stories of Jesus aren’t just for young people to hear in their classes but for us as adults, too. Don’t you just love to hear how Jesus walked among men on earth, humbled Himself and did His Father’s will?
Fasting alone in the desert,
Tell of the days that are past,
How for our sins He was tempted,
Yet was triumphant at last.
Tell of the years of His labor,
Tell of the sorrow He bore;
He was despised and afflicted,
Homeless, rejected and poor.
The humanity that Jesus showed in His life on earth and yet, He did not sin. He went to the cross bearing OUR shame not His own. Jesus died for US! He bore our sins because He loved us. “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” (John 3:16)
Tell of the cross where they nailed Him,
Writhing in anguish and pain;
Tell of the grave where they laid Him,
Tell how He liveth again.
Love in that story so tender,
Clearer than ever I see;
Stay, let me weep while you whisper,
“Love paid the ransom for me.”
Rejected, He did not reject us. Hated, Jesus did not hate us. He had that love that sent Him to the cross to give HIS life for US! He didn’t stay there. Christ arose. He conquered death – once again – for us! He returned to heaven and now sits with God the Father on high. This verse below isn’t in our hymnals but has some great words in it as we see the Trinity together!
Tell how He’s gone back to heaven,
Up to the right hand of God:
How He is there interceding
While on this earth we must trod.
Tell of the sweet Holy Spirit
He has poured out from above;
Tell how He’s coming in glory
For all the saints of His love.
So, as the author asks this question today – may we have the same desire to know the stories of Jesus!
Tell me the story of Jesus,
Write on my heart every word;
Tell me the story most precious,
Sweetest that ever was heard.
