I have to say, school never finishes for homeschoolers and shouldn’t for any child really? At least in this household.
We have moved north by several miles (okay a few more than that). The learning the children have had this summer already about their new place could be fit into a rather large sized report.
Our first stop when we move to a new town is the local library. This town was no exception as last week we stayed in our church’s parsonage. We were excited to see the library was right across the parking lot. We were further delighted to see that in the library was a “museum room” giving us much information about the town our church is in (West Shokan). Mellie and I enjoyed wandering around this room looking and learning about this historic place. The church we go to is featured in this museum. They even have minutes from business meetings going back as far as the late 1800’s.
Mellie’s favorite way to learn is by being outdoors and this day proved no exception. We headed down the road from our church to a small cafe one morning. The cutest old car was parked there and the cafe was adorable. Of course, we had to stop along the way to look at flowers and see what bugs were flying about.
This week has been all about exploring our new town (where our home is) which is Saugerties. We loved their library and were quick to discover there is a lighthouse here. The girls and I decided to skip on over to the lighthouse and found out that the path leading to it was so delightful. We saw flowers, bushes, bugs, bees, and all the beautiful parts of God’s creation along the 8 minute path we took.
Education isn’t just for books and writing reports but the verbal communication that we can have with our children as they learn about God’s creation around them or even how to clean new flooring in a home. This type of education is invaluable and will not be forgotten quickly!
