“This is the day which the Lord hath made; we will rejoice and be glad in it.” Psalm 118:24
It’s Monday!
Can you quote this verse and mean it today? Why do Mondays seem so hard for people? I have always embraced Mondays (especially during the school year) because they represent a return to routine and regular schedules. As a middle child, you’d think I’d embrace chaos and free spirited living but I was raised by very routine parents who taught us to thrive on working hard and enjoying each day.
I enjoy the weekends when the official work week is finished and we can work on projects around the house. I love Sundays for their calm starts and the opportunity to serve God in our local church.
Mondays speak to me of a return to the norm. What IS norm for me?
Early mornings and quiet in the home while everyone still sleeps. I enjoy a cup of hot coffee and writing after I have met with God. There are so many little things I accomplish in the early morning hours (before 8am) like making sure the house is decluttered and Mellie is up for the day. Walking through a house that is orderly gives me a peaceful mind and thus a peaceful start to my day.
Non school Mondays mean a day of quiet where I recover from a busy Sunday. You can usually find me sewing (yes this calms me and is peaceful) or planning next year’s school lessons. Maybe I’ll be editing my book or texting my mom.
Mondays are MY reset from a busy weekend. When chronic pain is a daily portion of your life you learn to adjust and days of the week aren’t AS important as moments in time. Mondays are quiet days for me but they scream “back to routine.” This phrase alone is enough to heal my soul and calm my mind.
By now you’re thinking, she is off her rocker but I have chosen to live a calm, peaceful life at home not only because of my chronic illness (this life started years before that) but for my children. They need to see me in the home, at peace and not stressed about daily living.
Order, structure and cleanliness not only bring MY heart peace but my children and it starts each of our days off on the right path.
So, if you’re looking for me today – you know where to find me!
