God’s Word Is Special

“The grass withereth, the flower fadeth: but the word of our God shall stand for ever.”  Isaiah 40:8

God’s Word is in so many ways special to us. How is it our Guide?  What does the Bible provide for us?

The Bible gives us sustenance.  Matthew 4:4, “But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.” If we define sustenance we see it means, “food and drink regarded as a source of strength; nourishment.”  God’s Word is a spiritual sustenance for us to keep us going day by day.

We cannot live spiritually without daily reading and studying of His Word. It is also our comfort and hope.   In Romans 15:4 we are told this, “For whatsoever things were written aforetime were written for our learning, that we through patience and comfort of the scriptures might have hope.” How can we not find comfort in the pages of His Word when we read these words in Psalm 31:24, “Be of good courage, and he shall strengthen your heart, all ye that hope in the Lord.”

The Bible stands like a rock undaunted
’Mid the raging storms of time;
Its pages burn with the truth eternal,
And they glow with a light sublime.

“Open to me the gates of righteousness: I will go into them, and I will praise the Lord:” God’s Word is wonderful, amazing and as Psalm 118:19 says, we can praise the Lord as we go through the gates of righteousness. His Word is eternal.  Matthew 24:35 encourages us that we will never be without His Word, “Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away.”

The Bible stands and it will forever,
When the world has passed away;
By inspiration it has been given,
All its precepts I will obey.

When I look at the definition of profitable, I see it says, “yielding advantageous returns or results.”  God’s Word is definitely profitable for us but how? II Timothy 3:16 tells us how. “All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:”   His Word is perfect. “The law of the Lord is perfect, converting the soul:…” Psalm 19:7 reminds us that God’s Holy Word is perfect. When we read the Bible we know the word perfect means “complete or mature”.  If the Bible is complete or mature then it can convert our soul to be more like Him!

The Bible stands like a mountain tow’ring
Far above the works of men;
Its truth by none ever was refuted,
And destroy it they never can.

Hebrews 4:12 says, “For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.” The power of God’s Word in our day to day life cannot be understated.

The Bible stands every test we give it,
For its Author is divine;
By grace alone I expect to live it,
And to prove and to make it mine.

God’s Word will stand forever.

The Bible stands though the hills may tumble,
It will firmly stand when the earth shall crumble;
I will plant my feet on its firm foundation,
For the Bible stands.
