“For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him: And he is before all things, and by him all things consist.”
Colossians 1:16, 17
History is my favorite subject of all time. When you have been raised by an English professor who taught you to read at the age of 4 and a World History professor who could tell you story after story about the world; how can you not help but love it.
My dad was so fun to talk to about history. We would “quiz” him all the time. We would throw out a random date in time. He would tell us what was going on in the world in that year. My two sisters and I thought it quite impressive and it was.
My dad was brilliant. It showed in his schooling from the time he was little learning to read until well into his adult life when he was earning a Ph.D. and raising a family at the same time. His thesis had a long long title that I used to have memorized as a child and was so excited when I could roll it off my tongue. Today all I remember is that it was about Greek and Roman Philosophers.
As you can see, though, history was important in my life. In my later years, Geography became very interesting to me and my mom and I to this day continue to have interesting conversations about Geography. She looks up places and sends them to me and we connect dots on places we have been. It is great fun.
“All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made.” John 1:3
Enter the World Geography course my senior took last year. I wanted her to get an overview of the world and I have come to love this family and their curriculum for History and Geography. Having found it just last year, I plan on continuing the courses with the one child I still have left in school and I can’t wait to soak these subjects up myself.
Notgrass History has courses on History, Geography, Government and Economics. It is written with a Christian worldview and they have subjects from Elementary to Middle and High School.
Here is a look at their World Geography book. I couldn’t find my daughter’s workbook (she loves Geography so I suspect she still has it in her room) but the textbook and teacher’s guide are pictured here.

It is a very interesting series to both the child and the parent marking the work. I learned things along the way just following the answer key. A lot of thought, work and intelligence has been put into these books. I can’t wait to delve into their history for my 5th grader!
Teach your children to love the world around them as well as the greater world out there. You can travel to all the continents right from your home. And, you can do it with a Christian view in mind showing them how God made this world we live in, the people here and the history of the world is really from Him.
