Rest For Our Mind, Soul And Body

Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.” Matthew 11:28

It’s been a week.  Trying to do school, keep the house clean and rest to heal from a flu has been interesting.  I don’t usually get the flu like most people. My body hangs on to any sickness and drags it out for seemingly weeks instead of days.  If you know me, you know I’m a homebody.  I LOVE being at home.  I wasn’t always like this but I became this way more and more as I suffered from chronic pain.  I’m happiest when wandering around my own home calmly cleaning, organizing, writing or teaching.

However, it gets very hard to be home sick when you want to do the normal things you do and you have no energy to do them.  I need to rest.  How do I tell a body that is used to moving to rest? Rest is a healing agent of both the mind, the soul and the body.  If we look at rest in this manner, maybe it will become easier to do so.

Why can’t I rest?  I have been programmed by this world’s view on rest.

I’m reading this list and thinking that there are so many verses to combat each one of these excuses we give not to rest.  As moms, especially, if we are not rested and healthy, the home falls apart.  I know this for a fact.  Thankfully, I now have older children who have jumped in over the years to help with this house and all the duties that go with it.

One area that is mine alone is in the schooling of our children.  By schooling, I mean the basics of education.  Pierre is faithful to meet with the family every day (and I mean 365 days a year) around God’s Word to start our day off right.  How do I school my last child on the weeks that I’ve been left depleted?

Thankfully, homeschooling allows for a lot of learning between snuggles in bed.  She has a great math program online as well as science.  We can work in 30 minutes of school here or there throughout our day.  This last child of ours is so smart (yes, without bias I can say this) because she is surrounded by adults and learning (may I say sponging) information off of them.  Of course, this means I am constantly reminding us all here to be examples to her.

So today, while I rest from labor to be (hopefully) ready for church tomorrow, I am reminded that God is with me.

“And he said, My presence shall go with thee, and I will give thee rest.” Exoduss 33:14
