It TRULY Is His Great Love

We sang recently one of my favorite songs in church and the words had me thinking again how great a love Christ has for me in every situation.

His love is greater than any love even my parents or my husband or my children have for me. His love is greater than any trial I must go through and the words of this song have me thinking this morning about this very thing.

  1. A friend I have called Jesus, Whose love is strong and true,
    And never fails howe’er ’tis tried, no matter what I do;
    I sinned against this love of His, but when I knelt to pray,
    Confessing all my guilt to Him, the sin-clouds rolled away.

    • Refrain:
      It’s just like Jesus to roll the clouds away,
      It’s just like Jesus to keep me day by day,
      It’s just like Jesus all along the way,
      It’s just like His great love.
  2. Sometimes when clouds of trouble bedim the sky above,
    I cannot see my Savior’s face, and doubt His wondrous love;
    But He, from heaven’s mercy seat, beholding my despair,
    In pity bursts the clouds between, and shows me He is there.
  3. When sorrow’s clouds o’ertake me, and break upon my head,
    When life seems worse than useless, and I were better dead;
    I take my grief to Jesus then, nor do I go in vain,
    For heav’nly hope He gives that cheers like sunshine after rain.
  4. Oh, I could sing forever of Jesus’ love divine,
    Of all His care and tenderness for this poor life of mine;
    His love is in and over all, and wind and waves obey,
    When Jesus whispers, “Peace, be still!” and rolls the clouds away.

His Love Is Merciful

As the song reminds us: “and never fails how-e’er ‘tis tried,” we are reminded of His mercy. Ephesians 2:4 says, “But God, who is rich in mercy, for his great love wherewith he loved us.”

His Love Is Grace

Often times we see the clouds in the skies as the song reminds us and we can not see His face. However, Christ is there and His promise is He sits on the right hand of God interceding for us. We can be bold in our approach to the Savior. “Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.” (Hebrews 4:16)

His Love Is Hope

I think the third verse is the best and most powerful. Life can weigh us down and everyday isn’t about lollipops and skipping through it. We can be sad or even depressed by the circumstances around us but we don’t have to stay there. We have hope. The author speaks to our hearts when she says, “when life seems worse than useless, and I were better dead.”

Sadly there are too many Christians whose life reflects this phrase. They forget our hope and forget the One Who gives hope. They forget we don’t have to live in despair because He came and brought us hope. Salvation isn’t just about eternal life but it gives us eternal hope that as the Holy Spirit dwells within we can live with this hope of not only heaven but rest on this earth in trials. He is with us, we can have joy and rest in His great love. I Peter 5:7 is a well known verse we often forget in the panic of a trial but it says, “Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.”

Remember, today, that His great love rolls the clouds away! Isn’t it great?

“But the God of all grace, who hath called us unto his eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after that ye have suffered a while, make you perfect, stablish, strengthen, settle you.” I Peter 5:10
