This earth that we live on is immense in size and has so many different countries, cultures, characters that we could spend a lifetime discovering them all. We have creatures of every shape and size as well as vast bodies of water and an immense sky. The Lord did not miss a beat when He created our world.
However, did you know that love does not belong to this earth as well as a peace and light. Let’s look at them.
PEACE
“Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.” (John 14:27) This world thinks they have peace. They are always searching for peace but they do not have the peace that is eternal. There is a peace so vast in its completion that we need never fear again! “These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.” (John 16:33)
Our peace comes from our Savior hence making it eternal. Just how do we attain this eternal peace? First, accept Jesus as your Savior. Second, we will have trouble in our lives but as Christians we can run to this verse and be quieted from those troubles. “Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee.” (Isaiah 26:3)
LIGHT
Really? Light? But don’t we need light to see? Yes, we need light from our sun and from the electricity we produce but THE LIGHT, the true Light is Jesus Christ. Without HIM we walk in darkness. “Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.” (John 8:12) Eternal life! Life without end and without sorrow! This is the life we need and we can have it by walking into THE LIGHT and seeing that Jesus is THE ONLY WAY to have eternal life. “And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not.” (John 1:5)
Jesus, the Light, came to earth to die for us but the Light does not belong here in this dark, sinful world and neither do we. Our final home is heaven! However, while we are on this dark earth let us be little lights to show others the true Light. “Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.” (Matthew 5:16)
LOVE
Wait? What? Love is all around us in the world and we need it. True but there is a type of love that does not belong here. “Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him.” (I John 2:15) Remember, we are not of this world so to want to cling so closely to them, is not good. This kind of love does not belong in a Christian’s heart.
Our heart is for Him Who has saved us and called us out of this world. A better form of love while living in our temporary dwellings here on earth would be found in this manner. “Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy strength, and with all thy mind; and thy neighbour as thyself.” (Luke 10:27) To love God means to not love this world. To love God means to love the people of this world and seek to warn them of their eternity.
Things not of this world, that do not belong here, but so necessary to think on. If we remember that this world is NOT our final home we can put our lives into perspective to live for Him. Life on earth becomes more about warning others of the wrath to come and less about the things of this world. If you haven’t read Pilgrim’s Progress, you should.
