When Technology Is Good

“That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works.” II Timothy 3:17

We live in a time of technology and my children do not get a phone just because they are breathing. However, they have had tablets or my old iPhones that work as tablets for school, learning, etc.

We use them for research in school and to message family and friends who live far away from us.  They come in handy when I have responded to 21 questions in a day and I do not have the answer to the 22nd question.  We can “google” it.

We also use technology for texting back and forth when we are not near each other.  Their dad works from home and sometimes I’m in his office working as well.  He will be on a business call and they hear this so they will text me their question.  It works well this way.  I can pop out and talk to them.

Sometimes they come in handy when you need to text them for a drink of water or a book.  My dad used to ask us to get things for him and as a child I always thought, I’ll never ask my kids to get me a book from another room or a drink from the kitchen.  And yet here we are!  I’ve come to realize as a parent when we are so busy with cleaning the house or feeding a baby, it IS helpful to have that extra set of hands.

Mellie has discovered the joys of late-night texting which always amuses me.  She has to give up her technology at 8 before going to bed but this text was adorable.

And so today I’m grateful for the loving child God gave me. Keep in mind that we do school every day together side by side. We read books and cuddle in the afternoons and we pray together before bed each night and still I get these texts. They never get old.

“And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men;” Colossians 3:23

My six blessings call me Mother. A fun song about families.
